What Are Tunable White LED Strip Lights?

A tunable white LED strip light carries two separate white channels — typically warm white around 2700K or 3000K and cool white around 6500K — on one board. A CCT controller blends the two channels, letting you set relaxing warm light, balanced neutral white, or crisp daylight from the same installation, and adjust brightness independently. These strips are also sold as CCT-adjustable, CCT LED strip, variable white, dual white, bi-color or 2-in-1 LED tape.

Tunable White vs. Dual White vs. Dim-to-Warm

Three technologies are commonly confused. The table below shows how each behaves and which are stocked in this collection.

Type How it works Control needed In this collection
Tunable white (CCT adjustable) Warm and cool channels blend continuously across the full range CCT controller; color temperature and brightness set separately Yes — 34 models, 2700K–6500K and 3000K–6500K
Dual white (2-in-1) Discrete warm and cool channels driven independently Dual-channel CCT controller Yes — 13 models, 3000K + 6500K
Dim-to-warm Color temperature warms automatically as brightness drops, mimicking a dimmed incandescent Standard dimmer, no CCT channel Not stocked — dim-to-warm has no separate color control

Choose tunable white or dual white when you want deliberate control over color temperature. Dim-to-warm only changes color as a side effect of dimming, so it cannot deliver cool daylight at low brightness.

Tunable White Strip Types Available Here

  • SMD 2835 tunable white: The mainstream choice — strong output per meter across 4mm to 10mm widths, from 72 up to 240 LEDs/m.
  • SMD 2025 tunable white: Compact chips on 3mm to 6.5mm boards for slim reveals and narrow channels, 120 to 240 LEDs/m.
  • SMD 1515 high density: 528 LEDs/m on a 5mm board for a near-continuous, dot-free line of light.
  • 3-wire CCT: Common-anode wiring with separate warm and cool channels.
  • 2-wire CCT: Simplified wiring using a controller that changes current direction or control state.
  • Single-LED cuttable: Trim at every LED for exact-length runs, with 5V, 12V and 24V options.
  • Specialty builds: Black PCB for dark channels, high-power models for large rooms, CRI 95 high-efficacy strips, sawtooth bendable strips for curves and corners, IP65 silicone-coated strips for damp areas, and a diamond backlight panel for illuminated stone and translucent surfaces.

Color Temperature Guide

Every tunable strip in this collection reaches any setting between its warm and cool endpoints. Use this guide to pick a target range.

Setting Appearance Best for
2700K Warm, incandescent-like Bedrooms, lounges, restaurants, evening ambience
3000K Warm white Living rooms, hospitality, under-cabinet accent light
4000K Neutral white Kitchens, offices, bathrooms, general task light
5000K Bright neutral to cool Workshops, garages, detailed task areas
6500K Cool daylight Retail display, cleaning, makeup and inspection tasks

How to Choose the Right CCT Strip

Confirm the color temperature range first, then compare voltage, LED density, width, CRI, cut interval and IP rating against the installation.

Voltage Typical use Notes
5V Short runs, USB-powered and compact builds Highest voltage drop; keep runs short
12V Cabinets, mirrors, furniture, vehicles Widest controller and driver compatibility
24V Coves, ceilings, long professional runs Half the current of 12V at equal power, so less voltage drop
  • LED density: 72–120 LEDs/m suits general accent light; 168 LEDs/m and above gives smoother output behind a diffuser; 240–528 LEDs/m produces a dot-free line at close viewing distance.
  • Strip width: 3mm to 5mm fits narrow reveals and slim aluminum profiles; 8mm to 10mm carries higher output.
  • CRI: CRI 80 is adequate for general lighting; CRI 90 is standard across most models here; CRI 95–97 is worth specifying for retail, galleries, vanities and food display.
  • IP rating: Every model offers IP20 for dry interiors or IP67 encapsulation for damp and wet locations, with an IP65 silicone-coated option available.

Where to Use Tunable White LED Tape

Adjustable white lighting earns its cost anywhere one space serves several purposes across the day.

  • Under cabinet and under counter lighting: Neutral or cool white for food prep, warm white in the evening.
  • Kitchens, bathrooms and vanities: Daylight settings for grooming and cleaning, warm settings for ambience.
  • Bedrooms, closets and wardrobes: Warm light at night without losing bright white for finding clothes.
  • Cove, ceiling and stair lighting: Architectural runs where 24V reduces voltage drop over distance.
  • Shelving, display cases and retail: Cool white makes merchandise read crisp; high-CRI models keep colors true.
  • Offices, conference rooms and hospitality: Human-centric lighting schedules that shift cooler by day and warmer by evening.

Power, Control and Installation

A complete tunable white system needs four parts: the strip, a compatible CCT controller, a correctly sized power supply, and connection hardware.

  • Controller: Match the controller to the strip's voltage, wire count (2-wire or 3-wire) and maximum current. A single-color LED strip dimmer cannot blend two white channels.
  • Power supply: Total the wattage per meter across the full run and size the driver with at least 20% reserve capacity.
  • Smart control: Depending on the controller, tunable white strips can run from an app, remote, voice assistant, Zigbee or Wi-Fi.
  • Cutting: Cut only at the marked cut points. Cut intervals vary by model and density, and single-LED cuttable models can be trimmed at every LED.
  • Mounting: Fix to a clean surface or an aluminum channel. Reseal cut ends and connections on IP65 and IP67 models before use in damp locations.

Standard length is a 5m reel (16.4ft). Custom CCT, length, power, adhesive backing, cable, connectors and packaging can be quoted for project quantities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What color temperature range is best for tunable white lighting?

A 2700K–6500K range is the most versatile for residential and commercial spaces because it covers warm incandescent-like light through cool daylight. Choose a 3000K–6500K range where you never need the warmest setting, and prioritize a wide range wherever one room handles both task work and evening relaxation.

Can a regular dimmer control a tunable white LED strip?

No. A standard single-color LED strip dimmer adjusts only one channel and cannot blend warm and cool output. Use a CCT controller matched to the strip's voltage, wiring configuration and maximum current.

What is the difference between 2-wire and 3-wire CCT strips?

A 3-wire CCT strip uses a common anode plus separate warm and cool feeds, which is the most widely supported wiring. A 2-wire CCT strip simplifies installation to two conductors and relies on a controller that varies current direction or control state. Neither is universally better — match the strip to a controller built for that wire count.

Can you cut tunable white LED strip lights?

Yes. Cut only on the marked cut points, which repeat at a fixed interval that varies by model and LED density. Single-LED cuttable models in this collection can be trimmed at every LED for exact-length runs. Both warm and cool channels must remain connected across the cut, so reseal and reconnect all conductors when joining sections.

Should I choose 12V or 24V tunable white strip?

Use 12V for shorter runs, cabinets, mirrors, furniture and vehicles, where controller compatibility is widest. Use 24V for coves, ceilings and longer professional installations, because 24V draws half the current of 12V at the same power and therefore suffers less voltage drop over distance.

How many LEDs per meter do I need?

For general accent lighting, 72–120 LEDs/m is sufficient. For diffused channels or close viewing, choose 168 LEDs/m or higher. High-density strips of 240–528 LEDs/m give a continuous, dot-free line and are the best choice behind a shallow diffuser or in a mirror surround.

Do tunable white strips work outdoors?

Only with the correct ingress protection. Every model here offers IP20 for dry interiors or IP67 encapsulation for wet locations, and an IP65 silicone-coated model is available for damp and covered outdoor areas. Reseal every cut end, joint and cable entry before installing outdoors.
